Burke Mountain

I’ve lived in this area my entire life and looked at this mountain almost every day yet for some reason never hiked it until now. It was a great day for a hike, it was a bit brisk but the sun was out and beautiful. My son and I took our time and just enjoyed being outdoors in the fresh air.
Upon reaching the first lean-to we took a break, made our lunch and warmed up with some hot chocolate. From this first lean-to the trail splits and you can either continue up the red trail or go up the blue trail. We decided to ascend using the blue trail and then come down the red trail. The blue trail is definitely steeper than the red trail, but really pretty trail to go up. The trail had a fair amount of ice and so we wore our micro spikes the whole way up.
It was a clear day so we were graced with a stunning view. It’s hard to believe that I had missed out on this view for so long. After summitting we headed back down the red trail. The red trail parallels the ski trails for a short distance then back down to the first lean-to. The hike took us about 4.5 hours with lots of stops and a break for lunch. This was a great trail. I can’t wait to do it again this spring or summer
