We lucked out with such a awesome day after a streak of cold snowy weather. It had been feeling more like winter rather than spring, but lucky for us today was a gorgeous day! This trail is a really easy one with very little elevation gain and can be done in a short period of time. We were on our way to Pittsburg, NH but decided to take a detour and go on a short hike first.
The trail is located just off of I93. Take exit 34C onto NH-18 toward Echo Lake Beach. The parking lot for the trailhead is about .2 miles on the right. The trailhead sign is pretty beat up but is still easy to find. The way up the trail is pretty rocky, but not difficult. This would be a great trail for kids and dogs. The overlook is approximately .7 miles up. The trail does get a little steep in some sections but is easy to navigate. The day we went the snow was pretty slushy and melting at a quick pace, which made some sections a little slick. We wore our regular hiking boots without the need of micro spikes.
Location: Franconia, NH
Distance: 1.4 miles loop
Time Frame: less than 1 hour
Elevation Gain: 381 ft.
This is the perfect trail to take if you're looking for something quick and easy on your way through Franconia Notch. It offers an amazing view of Cannon Mt. and Franconia Ridge for very little effort. A great starter trail for kids and dogs.
